Larry Browne – DCP FBIDST FDTA ITI Fellow LCGI

Over 50 years of top level experience in technical dentistry. Formerly owner of L S Browne Technical Services Dental Laboratory. Which specialised in prosthetic, crown and bridge and implant borne restorations. Provided technical support for implant constructions using most published systems including Straumann, Nobel and Astra. Has extensive experience of technical planning and occlusal rehabilitation schemes. Believes in working closely with his restoring clinical colleagues in a committed team approach to restorative dentistry for the benefit of the patient. He has always believed in the principle of registration for dental technicians and joined the national voluntary register in 1960. Larry began his professional career in 1957 as an apprentice. Completed his training in 1962. Worked at King’s College Hospital for a further two years and then worked in commercial laboratories.  Two years with B&S Dental Laboratory and then 12 years with Advance Ceramics as General Manager and Director.  In 1978 he began his own Laboratory L S Browne Technical Service and remained their until his retirement from everyday dentistry in 2014.

Profession History / Achievements

Larry has been presenting lectures and courses on various aspects of clinical and technical dentistry since 1967. He has a passion to help dentists and technicians understand how to better deliver high quality dentistry to their patients.

Larry is one of the most recognised and honoured DCPs in the UK:

2015 – Appointed a fellow of the Dental Technologists Association (FDTA) in recognition of his contribution to technical dentistry and postgraduate education.

1997 – Larry gained a Licentiateship City and Guilds (LCGI) qualification demonstrating his commitment to Professional Standards.

1997 – Invited to become a Fellow of the British Institute of Dental Surgical Technologists (FBIDST)

1995 – Invited to become a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) – only the third, technician world wide, ever to be honoured in this way.

As a Technical Consultant for the Straumann Dental Implant® system for over 20 years with responsibility for education courses for technicians and clinicians, Larry continues to speak at major clinical and technical congresses on all related subjects.

Since 1967 Larry has been invited to lecture and present throughout the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, the United States, Australia, South Africa, Turkey, Greece, Holland and the Caribbean.

(ITI) 1984 – Present Technical Consultant to Straumann UK & the International Team for Implantology

In this role Larry has presented and trained over 5000 clinicians and technicians in all aspects of implant and restorative dentistry by being a key speaker on a range of formal courses, mentoring and hands-on workshops. Highlights of Larry’s involvement with Straumann and the ITI include presenting at:

  • The ITI World Congress – Lucerne Switzerland
  • The ITI National Congresses in London, Scotland and Ireland
  • Two-day clinical and technical implant courses in the UK, Ireland, Scotland and Iceland
  • Three-day hands-on Team for Advanced Oral Implants (TAO) Clinical Courses held at the world-renowned McIndoe Unit at East Grinstead
  • ITI South Africa – Seven city nationwide lecture tour

Larry has a keen interest in occlusion and has worked and presented with many leading clinicians around the world to teach and promote a better understanding of this complex subject.
